Naphthenic acid acts as an emulsifier in the processing of a bitumen-emulsion, providing greater plasticity, together with good water resistance and therefore better adhesion with the roadstone or foundations in damp conditions. Alkaline earth metal naphthenates are used as a binding agent in the manufacture of briquettes.
Aluminium naphthenate is used as a waterproofing agent for stone and concrete in the building industry,
and alkaline earth metal naphthenate are used in the production of cement.
